The Junior Auxiliary of Arkadelphia is sponsoring a ladies’ Back to School Bunko Bash on Saturday, Aug. 8 at 6 p.m. at Slim & Shorty’s restaurant, 617 Clinton Street in Arkadelphia for those 21 years and older. No pre-sale tickets will be sold; tickets will be available only at the door for the following prices: $30 regular admission, $25 with donation of a school supply and $20 for all faculty, staff and administrators in Clark County public schools as well as local universities, Henderson State and Ouachita Baptist.

According to organizer Robyn Godwin, the Bunko Bash serves several purposes. First and foremost, the Junior Auxiliary wanted to host an event that would recognize area educators. “The Junior Auxiliary’s motto is ‘care today, character tomorrow,’” explained Godwin, “and we want to acknowledge all the educators and administrators whose job it is to care for children on a daily basis. And with school starting in a few weeks, we thought it would also be helpful to simultaneously host a supply drive.”

The JA will accept any school supply suitable for students in kindergarten through 12th grade, and Godwin will work closely with school counselors to ensure that all donated supplies are distributed to area children who need them.

Continuing the Junior Auxiliary’s mission of helping children, all profits from the event will go toward the JA’s biggest project, the Angel Tree, held during Christmastime.

Godwin concluded, “We want the Back to School Bunko Bash to be a fun girls’ night out before school starts and we all become busy with fall activities, and we want ladies in the community to join us.”

“Of course,” she quickly followed, “if a man—especially one donating a school supply—showed up, we’d sell him a ticket, welcome him in, and wish him good luck.”
