Rebekah Sims of Gurdon High School was recently awarded the Pat Pennington Junior Auxiliary Scholarship of $600. The Junior Auxiliary of Arkadelphia annually awards $1200 of scholarships to seniors at Arkadelphia High School and Gurdon High School. The scholarship, named in honor of our founding President, Mrs. Pat Green Pennington, is awarded to students who plan to use their education to impact or enhance the lives of children. According to her application, Ms. Sims plans to attend Arkansas Tech University and major in Psychology, with an eventual goal of earning a master’s degree in Clinical Counseling in order “to help children deal with emotional and mental disorders and better cope with difficult situations.” Earning a 4.0 cumulative GPA, Ms. Sims will graduate on May 18 as Salutatorian of the GHS class of 2018. Here, Ms. Sims is pictured with Junior Auxiliary Scholarship Chair, Mrs. Nicole Porchia at the Gurdon High Awards Assembly on May 8. The Junior Auxiliary will award the scholarship to the AHS recipient on May 16.
