The Junior Auxiliary of Arkadelphia presented scholarship awards to 2016 Pat Pennington Scholarship of Excellence recipients Adeline Goodman and Olivia Moore at its June 2016 chapter meeting.

Junior Auxiliary of Arkadelphia Charter President Pat Pennington joined current members in presenting her namesake scholarship to the two outstanding senior students. The Junior Auxiliary Pat Pennington Scholarship is available each spring to graduating seniors from Arkadelphia High School and Gurdon High School. In keeping with the organization’s mission to positively impact the lives of local children in the community, Junior Auxiliary of Arkadelphia annually awards two scholarships in the amount of $600 (one to each high school) for students who plan to use their education to impact or enhance the lives of children.

Adeline Goodman, daughter of David and Carrie Goodman of Arkadelphia, is a graduate of Arkadelphia High School, where she earned a 4.17 grade point average. In the fall she will be attending Ouachita Baptist University where she plans to major in English and mass media. She dreams of one day working in a publishing house for children’s books, to change lives through literacy.

Olivia Moore, daughter of Robbie and Patricia Moore of Gurdon, is a graduate of Gurdon High School, where she earned a 4.1 grade point average. In the fall she will be attending Henderson State University where she plans to major in biology. She dreams of one day serving as a physician assistant at a pediatric clinic or hospital, to change lives through medicine and mission work.

Goodman and Moore were presented certificates at their schools’ respective awards assemblies in May. The graduates met Mrs. Pennington and current members to learn more about the work of the local chapter in their communities at the June meeting.

Junior Auxiliary represents a serious endeavor on the part of women to be active and constructive community participants while assuming leadership roles in meeting community needs.

The National Association of Junior Auxiliaries provides their members with the opportunity to serve and to be a vital part of the community while encouraging members to render charitable services which are beneficial to the general public, with particular emphasis on the welfare of children.
